Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Xinzha, Zharugou, Nanping County, Sichuan. It was named by Fan Yingnian in 1994.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone and Claystone. Dark-gray thin- to moderately thick-bedded compact limestone and crystalline limestone, intercalated with shale and dark-gray hydromica claystone interbedded with crystalline limestone and clayey limestone. 123.2 m thick.


Lithology Pattern: 
Shallow-marine marl

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Xinzha Fm

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Yiwa Fm

Regional extent

Distributed along Zharugou, Jiuzhaigou of Nanping County of Sichuan to the West Qinling Mts.

Fossils

Corals Neobeichuanophyllum shawoziense, N. zalugounense, Beichuanophyllum longifossularise, Humboldtia ruttneri and Kwangsiphyllum zhanggouliangense; Brachiopods Tenticospirifer marhouski, Cyrtospirifer sinensis and Cleiothyridina sp.


Age 

early Yanguanian (early Early Carboniferous), but there is another opinion that attributes it to the late Late Carboniferous.
